There was a special rare flower that was the only one of its kind known in existence. It was kept in a monastery high in the Himalayan Mountains and was called The Flower of Infinite Peace. The monks that kept it were given a sign that when it started to reproduce it was to be dispensed to the leaders of the most powerful countries in the world. There should be at least one sent to every continent on the planet
Now this flower didn't need tending. It didn't need water, soil, and therefore a pot. They didn't even keep it in sunlight. Although sunlight would not have harmed it, it wasn't necessary. They kept it in a dark room on an alter with a lamp burning constantly and incense offerings given next to it for centuries.
This delicate flower had the purest white blossoms with strange vine like stems like an orchid and it laid spread out on the alter. It seemed to need only air to live and grew from a pod. It never faded and was always fresh.
This flower sat there as fresh as ever dispensing its wisdom to all within its presence. This flower resonated with creation and was a great mystery. All the monks that tended this flower felt tremendous peace in its presence and it was said that this flower helped the devout reach enlightenment and was considered one of the greatest treasures in the world to those that knew about it. You could feel the flower's resonance within your consciousness and it was like a vibration within you.
So after all these centuries, (maybe a thousand or even more years) other pods began to split off from the main pod. Though they didn't bloom but were dormant, there were dozens of them. Each pod was carefully harvested and placed in a ginger jar until the appointed time to dispense them came. It took decades to harvest them all but what is almost a century to a plant that lives for thousands of years?
As the flower was about to shed its last pod it sent a message to its tenders. This last pod was to be special and set aside from the rest and placed next to it on the alter. Then all the rest were to be dispensed around the world. As they pulled them out of the jar and packaged them for shipment the plant would telepathically tell them where each pod was to be sent. The final pod was to be sent to the President of the United States.
Now these monks were highly enlightened thanks to this plant so they believed one of the qualities of this plant was that it spread enlightenment. So they rationalized that by dispersing these pods they would spread enlightenment to the world's leaders and elites. They hoped that by doing this they would set off a chain reaction of enlightenment among all of humanity and ultimately the human race would become as one and harmonious with no more ego or war. Hence the flower's name, The Flower of Infinite Peace.
Sadly, they didn't really understand how this flower actually worked. Nor did they understand the state the bulk of humanity had fallen into while they were ensconced safely in their monastery far from the tumult of civilizations. They didn't understand how greedy, flippant, and shallow people had become over the centuries. On the contrary though, the flower fully understood as it had been listening to humankind for all this time. Humanity had reverberated within it like a radio receiver and when the conditions were ripe it sent the message to disperse itself.
So with little fanfare or wonderment a secretary somewhere in the White House opened the box and found a dull little pod with nothing to suggest its specialness. It was similar in weight and texture to a milkweed pod, only completely enclosed. Although the note said it was a great treasure that belonged to Buddha himself, it was scoffed at, thrown around even and set aside like junk. It was only fortunate that it wasn't thrown into the trash.
Having safely arrived on the North American continent it began to send out its signals to the consciousness of the population here. It was very subtle at first as it hadn't germinated yet. Once the pods were all dispersed to their appointed locations, the mother plant began to die as its life cycle was complete and the pod next to her began to grow, as did all the others. As they grew they became more powerful. The new "mother plant" sent its commands to all the others.
The President of the United States felt it the strongest at first. It reverberated in his brain and he ventured downstairs and went straight to it and carried it up to the Oval Office. What the monks hadn't understood is that the rest of the world wasn't ready for this. As a matter of fact, the world was less ready for this then it had been a thousand years before. Although subtle and unbeknownst to humanity, the mother plant had resonated within the crystalline collective consciousness of humanity and amplified its nature and predilections in generation after generation throughout all those centuries. The result was that man became more and more depraved.
That brings us to the true nature of The Flower of Infinite Peace; its an amplifier. The monks were already enlightened and peaceful and the flower promised them it would bring peace and enlightenment to all of humanity in due time. Yea, it would insist upon peace no matter what. However, it couldn't amplify or mirror back what wasn't already there. If the monks had truly understood, they probably would have never sent the pods out into all of the world. Then again, they might have still.
So as we look all about with wars erupting everywhere, the rich obscenely so more than ever, economic crisis and collapses, protests, rioting, looting... Its all the amplification of the satellite flowers the world over.
As the flowers' powers took hold of the human race it grabbed a hold of the President and the leaders of the most powerful countries as well. Wars and chaos erupted everywhere and became more frequent. Far from peace, these flowers brought war and discord but wouldn't settle ultimately for anything less than peace. Peace it would have as our President entered the codes into the system that would launch thousands of ICBMs across the globe. As they detonated, the flower felt PEACE at last as the world was destroyed.
Then untold eons later an alien looking being stood over a hole in some ice in the very highest mountains with a spherical ship hovering overhead. The figure bent down and grasped the hand of a companion and helped them to the surface. In his hand he held a delicate white flower as they boarded their vessel.
