Q: These doctors are willing to go into Ebola infested areas because they believe ebola is so bad that people need help BUT they are unwilling to voluntarily quarantine themselves to keep ebola out of an ebola free country???? Now, does that make any sense?
April Lunababy's Answer: Yes, it makes lots of sense medically and legally. Now for preventing panic is another matter and would be purely politically driven. I think assuring the public can also be a legitimate governmental concern, but remember these people haven't done anything wrong and are not criminals. Furthermore, the governmental interest needs to be very strong and the consequences need to be clearly spelled out in advance ( they can't change the rules as they go. Its called 'due process' and its a very highly protected constitutional right, the suspension of which constitutes martial law. Do you want martial law? That's what you're demanding). Now the law in Maine is very clear that they have to prove she is in infected or reasonably likely infected. That's a pretty high burden of proof they have to meet. If they can't meet it then they need their asses sued off. Unless and until she shows symptoms she can't make anyone sick, so there is no danger.
